SEND

Edleston Primary is proud to be an inclusive school. Our priority is early identification of additional needs. We work in partnership with parents and carers to ensure that every child can experience success and is given the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

A child or young person has SEND if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for them. These children may need adapted or additional support from that given to other children of the same age.

There are four broad categories of SEND:

  • cognition and learning
  • communication and interaction
  • social, emotional and mental health
  • physical and/or sensory

Staff follow the Cheshire East Graduated Approach to support pupils with additional needs. Across all year groups, there is a wide range of strategies and resources that the teaching staff can use to include children who have special needs or disabilities. Throughout the school, some pupils with high levels of needs may follow a more bespoke curriculum based on their individual needs.

If you feel that your child has additional needs or are concerned about their progress in any of the above areas, you can speak to their class teacher or make an appointment to speak to the school SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator); Mrs Astles, via the school office 01270 910325 or senco@edleston.cheshire.sch.uk

At Edleston, we have close links with the Educational Psychologist Service, CEAT (Cheshire East Autism Team), Speech & Language Service, Springfield School Outreach, Sensory Occupational Therapy Service, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.

We are very fortunate to have an excellent team of teaching assistants, who each bring their own wealth of experience, to work with small groups and 1:1 with the children who have support plans. Regular training is provided to all members of staff from both within school and from outside agencies. Recently this has included: Girls with ASD; Autism Awareness; Supporting Pupils with Complex Speech, Language and Communication Needs; ELSA; MeLSA; Sensory Support and Emotionally Healthy Schools.
