Vision
Edleston Primary School believes that every child should have the right to a curriculum that champions excellence, supporting pupils in achieving to the very best of their abilities. We understand the immense value technology plays not only in supporting the Computing and whole school curriculum but overall, in the day-to-day life of our school. We believe that technology can provide enhanced collaborative learning opportunities; better engagement of pupils; easier access to rich content; support conceptual understanding of new concepts and can support the needs of all our pupils.

Intent

We teach a curriculum that enables children to become effective users of technology who can:

Understand and apply the essential principles and concepts of Computer Science, including logic, algorithms, and data representation.

Analyse problems in computational term and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs to solve such problems.

Evaluate and apply information technology analytically to solve problems.

Communicate ideas well by utilising appliances and devices throughout all areas of the curriculum.

Our broad curriculum encompasses computer science, information technology and digital literacy with strands that are revisited through a range of themes across the Key Stages to ensure learning is embedded.

Implementation

In EYFS, computing is covered through both continuous provision and discrete teaching of skills, using Mini Mash where appropriate.

Throughout KS1 and KS2, Computing is taught as an area of learning as well as integrated where possible with other curriculum areas. It is taught at a minimum of one session a week and based around Purple Mash scheme of learning.

We ensure our teaching enables children to be:

• up to date with online safety throughout Reception to Y6.
• enthused and equipped with the capability to use technology throughout their lives.
• responsible, respectful, and competent users of data, information, and communication technology.
• responsible, respectful, and competent users of data, information, and communication technology. 
• understanding of the importance of governance and legislation regarding how information is used, stored, created, retrieved, shared, and manipulated.
  
  

Impact
By using Purple Mash, we meet the government recommended/statutory guidance for the programmes of study for computing and other related legislative guidance (online safety). Children are encouraged in lessons to self, peer and group assess work in a positive way using online collaborative tools such as 2Blog and 2write in Purple Mash.
